“
As the President of the Library, I am delighted to connect with you through this website. We had been making continuous efforts to develop a new website that would take the library to an international platform and make its rich collection of books accessible to readers everywhere. With this vision in mind, the library had already begun taking concrete steps in that direction. Encouraged by your goodwill and support, these efforts have now borne fruit, and today we are pleased to present ourselves in your service through this website.
For the past 197 years, this temple of knowledge has been fulfilling the reading aspirations of its patrons. Keeping in mind the interests and demands of our members, we regularly acquire new books and enrich our collection. We also make every effort to promptly provide newly published books so that our readers have timely access to the latest literature and knowledge resources.
Over the years, the library has had the privilege of being associated with great personalities such as Swami Swaroopanand and Veer Savarkar. From its origins as the British Council Library to its present identity as the District Public Library, this institution has journeyed through history while becoming an integral part of Ratnagiri’s cultural, social, and intellectual heritage. It has remained a center of attraction not only for the people of Ratnagiri but also for readers from across India.
Today, through this website, we can connect with one another more easily than ever before. It has become simpler for us to share information about cultural programs, literary events, and various initiatives organized by the library. Likewise, this platform enables you to communicate with us conveniently.
Inspired by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s second law of library science, “Every reader his or her book,” we have made our library collection more accessible through this website. Similarly, in keeping with his third law, “Every book its reader,” prospective members can now download the membership form directly from our website and become a part of our library community.
I sincerely hope that you will make full use of these services and continue to support the library in its mission of promoting knowledge, learning, and culture.
